This estimator gives a rough ballpark using typical Austin pricing. Your real number depends on your panel and the run from it to your charger — a licensed contractor confirms that with a free quote.

Rough estimate, not a quote. The Austin Energy rebate is 50% of the charger’s purchase price, up to $500, for a Power Partner EV-compatible charger (enrollment required) — it applies to the charger, not installation labor. Oncor and PEC run separate programs we’ll help you confirm for your address. See the official Austin Energy program ↗

What drives the price

Three things move an Austin EV charger install up or down:

  • Distance from your panel. A charger right next to the panel is a short, cheap run. A charger on the far side of the garage — or in a detached garage — means more conduit, more labor, and sometimes a trench.
  • Your panel’s capacity. If your panel has a free 40–60A slot, you’re in the cheap lane. Older Austin homes on 100A service may need a panel upgrade or a load-management device to add a charger safely.
  • Hardwired vs. plug-in. A NEMA 14-50 outlet is usually a little cheaper than a hardwired Wall Connector, but hardwired charges faster and looks cleaner.

Don’t forget the rebate

If Austin Energy is your utility, its rebate returns 50% of the charging station’s purchase price, up to $500, for a Power Partner EV-compatible charger (enrollment required). It applies to the charger itself, not the installation labor — so a $700 charger earns up to $350 back, and a $1,000-or-more charger earns the $500 maximum. Here’s the full rebate guide.
