EV Charger Installation Cost in Austin

Most Austin homeowners pay $500–$2,000 to install a Level 2 home charger — and the Austin Energy rebate covers 50%, up to $1,200, so real out-of-pocket is often half that. Use the calculator below to estimate your install and rebate in about 30 seconds.

What drives the price

Three things move an Austin EV charger install up or down:

  • Distance from your panel. A charger right next to the panel is a short, cheap run. A charger on the far side of the garage — or in a detached garage — means more conduit, more labor, and sometimes a trench.
  • Your panel’s capacity. If your panel has a free 40–60A slot, you’re in the cheap lane. Older Austin homes on 100A service may need a panel upgrade or a load-management device to add a charger safely.
  • Hardwired vs. plug-in. A NEMA 14-50 outlet is usually a little cheaper than a hardwired Wall Connector, but hardwired charges faster and looks cleaner. Both qualify for the rebate with a licensed install.

Don’t forget the rebate

The sticker price isn’t your real cost. Austin Energy refunds 50% of the total — purchase plus installation — up to $1,200 for a Power Partner-compatible setup, or $900 otherwise. A $1,600 install in Austin Energy territory can net out around $800. The catch is paperwork: it only counts with a licensed electrician and, for hardwired units, a City of Austin permit.
